For Immediate Release: May 18, 2020 Effective Monday, May 18, 2020 the Jefferson County Courthouse and County offices are open to public foot traffic by appointment only. The Governor for the State of Kansas, Laura Kelley, directed by Executive Order 20-31 has ordered Kansas into phase 1.5 of the AD Astra: A Plan to Reopen Kansas, which became effective at 12:00 am, May 18, 2020. The plan outlines the gathering limitations, activities and establishments which are and are not allowed to open in this phase. For more information please go to www.covid.ks.gov. Any business in Jefferson County that is allowed to be open under the Governor’s AD Astra plan, is now allowed to provide self-services of unpackaged food or beverages, such as hot bars, salad bars, buffets, or beverage stations. The Jefferson County Health Department recommends frequent cleaning of such stations, and not allowing personal refillable containers or cups. People at high risk of severe illness from COVID-19 are urged to stay in their residence except as necessary to seek medical care. In all areas, establishments must follow the guidance provided by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), federal, state and local public health officials for social distancing and infection control measures.
