Thank You for Visiting the Jefferson County Planning & Zoning Website
The unincorporated area of Jefferson County is zoned and building permits are required. The County adopted zoning in the late 1960's and the current Zoning and Subdivision Regulations were adopted in March of 2009. The County participates in the National Flood Insurance Program.
The public is encouraged to phone or email the Planning and Zoning office to inquire about the process for obtaining a building permit. Verification can be made regarding a parcel's eligibility for a building permit. The parcel can be checked for zoning compliance, potential floodplain areas and access onto the property. Contact information may also be obtained regarding rural water availability, permitted access requirements from a county road or state highway system and on site wastewater systems.
The purpose of the Jefferson County Zoning Regulations is to promote the health, safety, comfort and general welfare of the citizens of Jefferson County. The public is encouraged to contact the Planning and Zoning Office when looking to purchase land for building in the unincorporated area of Jefferson County.
