The Jefferson County Health Department, Home Health and Hospice provides in-home personal care services. These Attendant Care programs enable persons to stay as independent as possible in their own home, by assisting with personal care and/or homemaking tasks.
Both Private Pay and Federally funded services are provided. The Federally funded personal care services are administered through the Jayhawk Area Agency on Aging (JAAA). A JAAA Case Manager completes an assessment to determine eligibility and availability of services. JAAA provides ongoing Case Management services to these clients while the Jefferson County Health Department provides the attendant care services.
Client eligibility for Federally funded programs requires that a person must live in Jefferson County, be at least 60 years of age, and have a physical or mental limitation which restricts their ability to perform activities of daily living. The services are federally funded and are not charged to the client.
The Private Pay Program is available for persons who do not qualify for federal programs, or for those persons placed on a waiting list for federal program services. Services are provided on an hourly basis, with a fee per hour.
Attendant care is provided by a Home Health Aide/Certified Nursing Assistant and may include:
- Blood pressure checks
- Bathing
- Shampoo
- Light housekeeping
