The County Clerk's Office

The County Clerk's Office handles many administrative duties for Jefferson County. These duties include:

  • Acts as the Secretary to the Board of County Commissioners by scheduling meetings, preparing and distributing the agenda and recording and distributing official meeting minutes.
  • Responsible for keeping official record of the Board of County Commissioners
  • Serves as the County Election Officer
  • Responsible for Human Resources
  • Administrator of County Payroll
  • Administrator of Accounts Payable
  • Review budgets for all County taxing entities
  • Prepare budgets for cemeteries, townships, fire districts, drainage and watershed districts
  • Calculate and set mill levies for all taxing entities
  • Swears in elected officials and various board members
  • Certifies Tax Unit Boundary Maps
  • Issues Cereal Malt Beverage Licenses
  • Register Scrap Metal Dealers
  • Sell Kansas Wildlife and Parks permits
  • Maintains inventory for Jefferson County
  • Keeps Real Estate Ownership Records (Assessment Roll)
  • Prepare and add special assessments and state assessed utilities to tax roll
  • Prepares the tax roll for the County

Election News                                                                    No primary election will be necessary for August 2023. A primary is needed when more than 3 times the number of candidates file for the position.  For example, for 1 position, if 4 people file it would require a primary.  See the candidate list on the Elections Section of this website.
